Prodesse releases ProPneumo-1™ Reagents
WAUKESHA, WI (July 12, 2005) – Prodesse, Inc. announced today that it has recently started shipping its ProPneumo-1™ Real Time reagents. This product can by used by high complexity CLIA-certified labs to develop an assay that detects two of the most common causes of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) – Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila pneumoniae.
Pneumonia is very common, with an estimated annual incidence of 2-4 million cases in the United States resulting in half a million or more hospitalizations. The bacteria detected by assays incorporating ProPneumo-1 reagents may be responsible, by some estimates, for nearly half of all pneumonias. Because these particular pathogens can take several weeks to culture, clinicians must treat their patients without identification of the underlying pathogen.
